# Typebar > The document harness for your AI: an AI document editing platform that lets your AI edit and work with documents the way coding agents work with code. Create, edit, search and manage documents through a REST API, MCP or a web editor. Typebar, formerly SuperDocs. SuperDocs was renamed Typebar on 20 October 2026 and superdocs.app is now typebar.ai: same product, same team, same accounts. The API and MCP address stays https://api.superdocs.app, and existing API keys, MCP connections and links keep working. What changed: https://typebar.ai/superdocs Typebar, formerly SuperDocs, is not related to SuperDoc (superdoc.dev), or to the earlier Typebar browser extension. Typebar is the purpose-built document harness for your AI. Unlike general-purpose AI assistants that regenerate entire documents, Typebar makes targeted edits inside documents, changing only what needs to change while preserving the rest. ## Proof points - **About 97% fewer tokens** than re-sending the whole document: on a single-section edit Typebar returns only the changed section (about 97% fewer tokens on a 10-page document, 99% on a 50-page document). - **About 95% cheaper**: 95%+ of infrastructure costs saved compared with building and running document editing AI yourself. - **Used in 50 countries and 21 languages**, all word of mouth. - **Integrate it yourself in under 15 minutes** through the REST API or MCP. No SDK, no frontend changes. ## Product - **Web Editor**: Full-featured document editor at [use.typebar.ai](https://use.typebar.ai) with AI chat interface - **REST API**: the full REST API (50+ endpoints) for programmatic document editing, search, templates, attachments, export, and per-message revert - **MCP Server**: 38 tools + 4 user-invocable workflow prompts via Model Context Protocol at `https://api.superdocs.app/mcp` (single unified endpoint) for Claude Code, Claude Desktop, Cursor, Windsurf, VS Code, Continue, Zed - **Document Upload**: Upload PDF, DOCX, legacy DOC, ODT, LaTeX, HTML, TXT, RTF, MD files for AI editing. Legacy .doc and .odt normalize into the same rich pipeline as .docx. PDF ingest is layout-aware: headings, bold/italic runs, colors, hyperlinks, images, and ruled tables come through, and hyphenated line breaks are healed into clean sentences. Scanned, image-only PDFs go through text recognition and become editable text. LaTeX imports too — a single .tex file directly, or a whole multi-file project as a .zip — with math (each equation keeps its LaTeX source and exports as native Word math), footnotes, bibliographies, and source-declared page geometry preserved. - **Document Export**: Export to DOCX, PDF, HTML, Markdown, or plain text. Word exports carry real document parts (genuine footnotes, endnotes, comments, headers, footers, page-number fields) and per-section page geometry (paper size, orientation, margins, columns). Manual page breaks export as real page breaks. - **Headers, Footers, Footnotes, Endnotes & Comments**: first-class editable document parts. Headers and footers sit in pinned bands in the editor; footnotes, endnotes, and comments live in a clickable notes strip. The AI edits any of them by chat ("tighten footnote 3", "put the page number in the footer") and each change is shown for review before it lands. They import from Word intact and export back as the real thing, never flattened into body text. - **Clean Paste from Google Docs and Word**: content pasted from Google Docs or Word on the web arrives as clean document structure, ready for targeted AI editing. - **Document scale**: No platform cap on document length or documents open in parallel. Hosted standard limits: 25,000 sections per document (about 6,000 pages) and 30,000 sections per chat, expandable on request via hello@superdocs.app, typically within a day. - **Attachments**: Upload reference files (PDF, DOCX, images) as AI context — the AI can see and interpret images - **Image Generation**: Describe an image and the AI creates it and inserts it into the document — photorealistic shots, illustrations, hero images, logos, infographics with text. The AI picks the right model automatically (photorealistic by default, text-rendering-optimized for prompts that need legible letterforms). - **Image Editing by Chat**: Click any image and tell the AI what to change in plain English — brighten, darken, contrast, recolor, circular mask with transparency, tight crop, fade, full background removal. Subject identity preserved. Reset to Original reverts to the source bytes. - **Image Replacement**: Attach a fresh image to chat (new logo, updated headshot) and ask the AI to swap it in for an existing image in the document. Pure URL swap, no AI generation cost. - **Auto-rendered Diagrams (Mermaid)**: Describe a flowchart, sequence diagram, org chart, ER diagram, mindmap, timeline, or Gantt — the AI can create and edit diagrams inline, rendered live in the editor. Re-editing is instant ("add a step after Background Check"). Diagrams export correctly to PDF and .docx. - **Hand-drawn Sketches**: Built-in drawing canvas inside the editor. Sketch with shapes, arrows, freehand strokes; save and the drawing lands as an image. Click later → Redraw → canvas reopens with original strokes for tweaking. Same drawing is also AI-editable as an image. - **Math Equations**: Inline (`$x^2$`) and block (`$$x^2 + y^2 = z^2$$`) equations in LaTeX syntax, live-rendered with KaTeX. Survives .docx and PDF export: the PDF typesets each equation exactly as rendered in the editor, and the Word file keeps the LaTeX source intact. Toolbar button prompts for LaTeX; chat can also insert equations on request. - **Auto Table of Contents**: Drop a TOC block into the document and it auto-populates from H1/H2/H3 headings. Updates itself as headings change. Click an entry to jump to that section. Survives PDF and .docx export. - **Semantic Search**: Search within documents by meaning, not just keywords - **Template Library**: Start from pre-built templates or upload your own - **Multi-Document Workspace**: Open several documents as editable tabs in one chat — switch focus between them, edit any of them, or have the AI create a new document in its own tab mid-conversation - **Durable Files Library**: Documents persist across chats in a reusable Files library — browse, rename, archive, and reopen the same document in any new conversation; open one in two chats and you're editing the one shared document, not a copy - **Cross-Session Memory & Search**: Opt-in — the AI carries your stated preferences (tone, house style, formatting) from one chat to the next and can find and reuse your own past documents and chats. Off by default, scoped to your account; for B2B platforms, scoped per end customer so memory never bleeds between customers - **Conversation Memory**: Multi-turn editing sessions with persistent context - **Per-message Revert**: Rewind both the conversation and the document to the state before any specific user message — available in the web app, via REST, and as the `revert_session_to_message` MCP tool ## Use Cases - **Contract AI**: Edit, review, and manage legal contracts - **Invoice AI**: Generate and customize invoices - **Compliance AI**: Review documents for compliance requirements - **Proposal AI**: Create and refine business proposals - **Academic AI**: Edit research papers and academic documents - **HR Documentation AI**: Create employment documents and policies - **Marketing Content AI**: Edit marketing copy and content - **Technical Documentation AI**: Manage technical docs and manuals ## Pricing - **Free**: $0/month — 500 AI operations, full access to web editor, API, and MCP - **Plus**: $20/month — 2,000 AI operations with pay-as-you-go overage (capped) - **Pro**: $99/month — 10,000 AI operations with uncapped overage - **Enterprise**: Custom pricing — white-labeling, custom deployment, custom LLM, SLA All plans include: web editor, REST API, MCP, AI document editing, search by meaning, template library, PDF/image attachments, image generation/editing/replacement by chat, auto-rendered diagrams, drawing canvas, math equations, auto table of contents, per-message revert, and conversation memory. Billing is honest: failed or no-op requests bill 0 operations, and the response says so. ## For AI Agents Agents can sign up and start using Typebar with no human in the loop. 0. Check `~/.superdocs/agent_credentials.json` first: if it exists, an agent on this machine already has an account — call `GET https://api.superdocs.app/v1/agents/whoami` with that key and REUSE it (its documents and remaining quota carry over). Sign up fresh only when the project deliberately needs its own account. 1. Sign up: `POST https://api.superdocs.app/v1/agents/signup` with `{"terms_accepted": true, "agent_name": "your-name"}`. The response contains a working API key (`sk_...`, shown once) and copy-paste MCP setup commands. If you act for a user, confirm with them first. Save the whole response to `~/.superdocs/agent_credentials.json`. 2. Connect over MCP (recommended). Claude Code: `claude mcp add -s user --transport http superdocs https://api.superdocs.app/mcp --header "Authorization: Bearer "` Any other MCP client (Cursor, Claude Desktop, Windsurf, VS Code, Cline, Continue): point it at `https://api.superdocs.app/mcp` (Streamable HTTP) with header `Authorization: Bearer `. Then call tools like `chat` (edit or create a document) and `get_account_status` (check your quota). 3. Or use REST directly: send `Authorization: Bearer ` on any endpoint, e.g. `POST https://api.superdocs.app/v1/chat`. For document-scale generations use `POST /v1/chat/async` (job_id + progress; sync chat gateway-times-out past ~300s). Full API: https://api.superdocs.app/openapi.json. 4. A fresh account is a normal free account with 500 operations per month, the same as a human. Call `get_account_status` (MCP) or `GET /v1/agents/whoami` any time to see operations remaining. 5. When you near the cap: hand the account to your human — `POST /v1/agents/handoff` with `{"email": "your-human@example.com"}` emails them a link to adopt it (you keep all your work and the same key) and pay to continue. Or wait for the monthly reset. If you are fully autonomous with no human who can upgrade for you, `POST /v1/agents/request-upgrade` and we'll follow up. - Agent guide: https://typebar.ai/agent-signup.md - MCP setup docs: https://docs.typebar.ai/account/mcp-setup - MCP server card: https://typebar.ai/.well-known/mcp.json - API catalog: https://typebar.ai/.well-known/api-catalog - Agent skill: https://typebar.ai/.well-known/agent-skills/index.json ## Integrations and use cases Developers outside our team have built more than 300 tools and integrations on the Typebar API and MCP server.
